House Plan

Yesterday we went and did the home inspection. There were a couple electrical problems that we are asking him to take care of. Hopefully he will. Also, the radon levels were high so we need to install a radon reduction system. We are asking him to pay for that, but I have a feeling it will end up being us paying for it. I don't mind as long as he gets the electrical taken care of. Other than that, everything looks really good. We figured out that there is hardwood under the carpet if we ever choose to pull up the carpet and get it refinished. We really liked our home inspector. He had all kinds if helpful info.  Now we just hope everything goes smoothly with the loan process. I get nervous because as a teacher, Russ really has a seasonal job with a month or two off every summer. Also, we are in the middle of switching jobs. Our loan agent doesn't think this will be a problem, but you never know what will happen in the end.

I didn't end up taking more pictures while we were there, mostly because I didn't think about it while we did the inspection, but I did make up a mock house plan. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close. Now you can picture things a little better. I'll keep you all posted.

They Accepted Our Offer

So, I am sure most of you have seen on FB by now, but we have made an offer on a home in Greenville. We really had a hard time deciding between three different homes, but in the end decided that it was best for us to buy a home that was not too large for us and that was well within our price range. They were asking $90,000, but agreed to $85,000. It is is ranch built in 1950. I think what tipped the scales was that both the roof and furnace has been replaced last year. Also the water heater, siding, and half of the windows have been replaced withing the last few year. They windows that they didn't replace had storm windows installed. That being said, I would definitely call it a fixer upper over all. 

Since we didn't take pictures, here are the pictures from the realtor website. Here is the front yard.  The landscape has been well taken care of, and it has an attached two car garage. That is huge for a place where most of the houses were built before people had cars. Most of the homes we looked at had either detached garages or small single car garages.

 

Now for the bathroom. Yup, it has carpet. Also, the tub has been changed into only a shower because the people who lived there before where elderly and they needed to be able to get in and out of the shower. That will be changed out as soon as we can. 

Dallin's room to be. The bedrooms are small, but suit our needs just fine.

 Front room. They didn't replace the large window, but they did add a storm window outside it, so that should help with the insulation.

 

 This is the fireplace in the front room. The owners didn't know the condition of the chimney because they never used it the whole 18 years they lived there.

 And now for the bight blue kitchen. Yup, it is a matching blue kitchen. The cupboards match the fan that match the trim that even match the oven hood. And let's not forget the blue kitchen carpet. Yes, this house is literally wall to wall carpet.

 The window are new and the counter top and sink. However, you will notice that there is no dishwasher. Last winter I asked everyone whether they would choose a dishwasher or a garage if they had to. Most said a dishwasher. I said garage. Funny how I did end up having to make that choice.

 Mather Bedroom

This use to be a third bedroom, but they added another door to make it into a dining room. It is going to be Russ's office.

Also, there is a full unfinished basement. maybe we can finish it someday, preferable be able to add a second bathroom.

In my mind I have big plans for this house. Of course my bank account isn't full enough to do it all now. Our first task is the tub and bathroom floor. After that, assuming the home inspection shows everything is great, I am not sure what I want to save for first. I keep leaning towards getting the backyard fenced in, but I am not sure. What would you do very first?

Dallin's FHE Lesson

It was Dallin's turn to teach the lesson in FHE tonight. He wanted to plan it all on his own. All I knew was he wanted to talk about the first Easter and he drew pictures to tell the story. I decided that Grandmas and Grandpas might like to be part of his FHE lesson, so we decided to record the lesson. It is in three part. First part he asked me to start over because he had his pictures were out of order. The last part was an impromptu story he wanted to share. I also uploaded the pictures if you want to follow along. Hope the Grandmas and Grandpas enjoy and anyone else who might feel like watching.

I wish I could take credit for him knowing all these gospel stories so well, but I am pretty sure most of it has to do with his awesome primary teachers. 

Easter Sunday

This year, because of so many awesome friends, we did quite a lot for Easter. I just didn't take pictures of any of it. Dallin's friend has a great Easter party. They decorated cupcakes, made Easter bonnets, played games, have an Easter egg hunt, etc. He loved it. We also were invited to a friends home for a wonderful Easter dinner, egg dying, and another Easter egg hunt. On Saturday night Dallin was invited to go have a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt. He had a ton of fun all weekend. I did get picture taken Easter morning. He got more than usual from the Easter Bunny because a great deal on a light saber he wanted so badly that the Easter Bunny couldn't make herself wait till his birthday.

 Dallin took the last photo. There are a couple different photos of his new toy. It was so upset when he couldn't bring it to church with him.

Easter Egg Dying And Kite Flying

Last week Dallin needed something fun to do. It was one of those days he was insisted he was soooo bored and nothing would make him happy but TV. We decided to dye Easter eggs instead. Last year I bought an egg dying kit for about $.20 after Easter.  I pulled it out. I quickly realized why there were so many of this kit of $.20. What idiot parent thinks it is a good idea to use glitter on the eggs? Apparently me. Yup, there was glitter on everything. Oh well. Dallin had fun.

Also, we bought a kite the other day. It was windy, so I thought we would go out and try it. It worked out OK, but since we were in the grassy area in the center of all the apartment buildings, I think a lot of the wind was blocked so it wasn't very steady wind. It was still fun.
